Castle of Wineck

The Château of Wineck is located in the variation of Wineckerthal, on the commune of Dambach, in the Département of the Low-Rhine.

History

The castle is built about the year 1300 for the family of Windstein. It is undoubtedly conceived as an observation post intended to supplement the defensive system of the Château of Schœneck from which it is not very distant.

It is dismantled at the end of the 17th century on order of the king de France.

Installed on a rock peak, the castle preserved only part of the stone walls of size with chains of angles at rustic embossing of the polygonal keep, being used formerly as shield with the modest home disappeared since.

One reaches it by a gallery dug in the rock, with door with semi height of cliff. The farmyard, of the east coast, is limited by a partly preserved enclosure.
