Castle of Vêves

The castle of Vêves is located in Wallonia (Belgium), in the old commune of Those (Houyet) in Province of Namur.

The origins of this castle go up far in time. Indeed, Pépin of Herstal had already raised there a villa in second half of the 7th century in order to approach the hermitage to Saint Hadelin with Those. The villa was then transformed into a small fortress by its various successors at the 9th century. This fortress shaven in 1200 and was rebuilt in 1220 by the Beaufort family which made a more powerful castle of it. Destroyed by Dinantais at the 15th century and restored at once, the castle had still to undergo the devastations caused in 1793 by the French revolutionists. At the 18th century, the family of Liedekerke-Beaufort restored the castle and this one took its current aspect.
