Castle of Trémazan

The castle of Trémazan is on the commune of Landunvez, face has Portsall. It is below located the coastal road, hidden since the sea. It is unfortunately in ruin. This beautiful medieval building, drawn up on a rock exposure, has a square keep which while collapsing partly, during the winter 1995, exposed the interior and revealed a livable tower on four floors, sheltering each one a room. The name of the castle of Trémazan is closely related to that of a family: that of the Of Chastel. It is them which built it and made their principal residence of it during several centuries. The origin of this chalk-lining is still surrounded the brown ones, but with the wire of the history, it gained its place with the sun. As well and so that Chastel ended up taking row in the high Breton aristocracy and counting among the four most important families of the Leon as an old saying characterizes in these terms: antiquity of Penhoët, valiancy Of Chastel, richness of Kermavan and knighthood of Kergounadeac' h. But the end of the 16th century will be fatal for them because, for lack of male heirs, the elder branch will end up dying out.

Today, Association " S.O.S castle of Trémazan" attempts to preserve the castle and to increase the knowledge of its past.

Thus levies on the beams of the castle gave place to a study of Dendrochronologie for better dating the building.
