Castle located on the commune of Saint-Pierre-of-Varennes in Saône-et-Loire, at the top of a butte.

Description

Construction

  • the buildings are distributed around an enclosure of irregular form divided into two by a wall separating the low court from the court of the home of the Masters. This one, of lengthened rectangular form, is flanked with the angles NO and, of square towers. A wing in return of square occupies the side E. and is connected to a third square tower by a wall side. Come then from the agricultural buildings and a stable. A turn-porch, located at angle SO, gives access to this unit.

  • 1653 ....................... death of Alphonse who leaves two girls Jeanne and Huguette, under the supervision of their uncle, Jean-Baptiste de Chaumelis
  • 1670 ....................... the girl of Alphonse, Huguette de Chaumelis , wife of Claude of Coste , inherits Torch at the conclusion of a fight baited against his/her uncle who had tried to despoil it
  • 1729 ....................... attacks castle by the surrounding population assembled by Eugene , wire of Huguette, which seeks to dispossess his/her mother
  • 1729 ....................... Jean-Baptiste , other wire of Huguette, inherits the field to dead of his/her mother
  • 18th century ............. Jean-Baptiste, without child, bequeaths the castle to his niece Jeanne-Huguette of Coste , wife of the marquis Jacques de Beaurepaire ; the main building, probably built by Chaumelis, is abandoned with farmers
  • fine 18th century ......... a girl Beaurepaire wife Louis Pelletier of Cléry which, because of a dissipated life, must sell Brandon
  • 1826 ....................... the good falls to Nicolas Tripier , lawyer
  • 19th century ............... by the girl of the precedent, Antoine Mala becomes owner
  • about it towards 1900 ................ important work of restoration completed by the grand-daughter of Nicolas Tripier, widow of Ferdinand de Jouvencel'
  • 1922 ....................... with died of Mrs. de Jouvencel , its grandson, the Viscount of Masin , inherits the field, family to which it still currently belongs
