Castle of Tightening

The castle of Tightening (Saint-Georges-sur-Loire, Maine-et-Loire) is located at about fifteen kilometers in the west of Angers.

History

The Renaissance castle has as a base the old bases of a medieval roof slate castle: the ditches testify to this moved back period where Tightening was a fortified town which supervised the passage of the Loire

In XVIe century, the Delespine architect is dispatched to build the main building built around a staircase with double opposed flight. He is also envisaged 2 wings in return… Work will not finish, of Brie, the owner, is with money course.

One century later, it is Guillaume de Bautru who will finish work, while respecting the plans of origin of the Rebirth: the homogeneity is safeguarded.

In 1749, François Jacques Walsh, Nantes ship-owner, repurchase Tightening. It is wire of a captain corsair, Phillip Walsh, of a family of emigrants Irish following the Stuart and established with Saint-Malo towards 1685. Walsh refit interior decoration, create a landscaped garden, build the two houses, the monumental grid of honor which carries their weapons.

In 1830, Valentine Walsh of Tightening wife the duke of Trémoïlle, family to which always belongs Tightening.
