Castle of Soothsayer
The Castle of Devín (in Slovak: hrad Devín or Devínsky hrad , in Hungarian: Dévény) is a fortress located in the historical village of Devín which constitutes today part of Bratislava, the capital of the Slovakia. At present, the castle is primarily made up of ruins, it shelters a museum and gardens and is used as place for dressed up festivities and historical reconstitutions. Devín decides " dévine".
History
This immense fortress overhanging the confluence of the Morava and the the Danube, represents one of the high archaeological places of the Slovakia. The oldest traces found go back to year 5000 before J.C.During Ier century before J.C., this territory was strongly populated by the Celtes.
For the period of the Roman Empire, the castle of Soothsayer was an important military point.
During the empire of the Large Moravie, the castle of Devín constituted a frontier fortified position and was one of the political and administrative centers. The first document mentioning fortress dates from the year 864.
After the fall of the empire of Large Moravie, the castle became a frontier station of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Several owners followed one another it.
In 1809, the troops of Napoleon striped it chart. The castle is today classified national historic building and belongs to the municipal Museum.
