Castle of Saché
The castle of Saché is a home of the French Renaissance builds on the foundations of a fortified town of the 12th century. It is located on the commune of Saché in the area located at the west of Tours in France. The castle of Saché is famous to have point of disjunction of many years Honore de Balzac, which made there many stays of 1824 to 1837 in order to find calm and peace necessary to its writing like fleeing its Parisian creditors and editors.
The castle shelters, since 1951, the Balzac museum open to the public.
History of the castle
The castle of Saché was built on the vestiges of a strengthened place of the 12th century of which remain the cylindrical tower and part of the dry ditches. Arranged with the Rebirth, it was agradi of a wing at the 17th century then one second at the 18th century. The whole of the building was arranged at the 19th century according to the style of the time by its owner, Jean de Margonne. It is after this period that Honore de Balzac made many stays each year with the castle.The castle was transformed into museum of the house of Balzac in 1951, thanks to Paul Métadier which was the patron and the conservative during more than 50 years.
Balzac with Saché
Balzac remained with saché several months per annum of 1824 to 1837. Saché was in particular the principal place of inspiration of the novel the Lily in the valley , but also the place of writing of a quizaine of other major works of the human Comedy , of which the Father Goriot , Eugenie Grandet and César Birotteau to only quote most famous.
