Castle of Ramstein
The castle of Ramstein is located in the Commune Frenchwoman of Baerenthal and the department of the the Moselle.
History
The Château is probably built in 1292 by the Seigneur S of Falkenstein to control the Vallée Zinselbach. But during the 14th century, the Seigneur S of Ramstein transform it into haunt of robbers. It is destroyed during a punitive forwarding by the Strasbourgeois and their allies Bernois.
Downwards, one can aperevoir two Souterrain S dug in 1936 by the military Engineering to make of it the general headquarter of the Ligne Maginot. These installations are used as shelter by the Population during the combat of the Hiver 1944 - 1945. This site currently is closed because lodging a colony of bat protected. A Rocher sandy in form of Champignon is located in front of the ruins of old the strong Château.
Still visible characteristics
One can still distinguish the vestiges from the home Seigneur ial as well as doors, galleries and rooms dug in the rock. The Château is registered with the topographic Inventory of the area Lorraine.
Access
Located at the exit of Baerenthal towards Mouterhouse, it is necessary to follow the street of Ramstein to reach the ruins. To continue straight in direction of the forest house . A carpark was arranged by the National office of the forests on the left at the entry of the Forêt. A path led to the ruins in ten minutes. There is a marvellous point of view there on the Village of Baerenthal and the Vallée of the Zinsel. ----
