Castle of Pondres

Of origin of the 12th century, the Château of Pondres is located on the Commune of Villevieille beside Sommières in the Gard in edge of the Ale road within a vast wooded park. It was strongly remaniè at the beginning of the 17th century by the creation of two wings connected by a vast central body, the whole including the medieval keep. Splendid terraces and staircases open the prospect towards the east since the main courtyard covered for traditional calades. Inside, monumental staircase serving of many galleries, corridors and apartments. Beautiful chimneys in gypseries, ceilings with the Frenchwoman, decorations XVIIIe, etc… It is about the vastest castle of the department of Gard, currently in a state of extremely worrying decay justifying the beginning of a vast campaign of sauvatage-restoration in order to give again with this exeptionnelle residence a part its splendor last. Property of the General advice of the Gard of 2004 to 2006, it is quickly put on sale. A private individual repurchased the part of the field to which the castle is attached. (another part, on the other side of the road, was delivered to construction of a supermarket and the installation of an allotment, the remainder of the field keeps for the moment its wine vocation). Creation of a senior medicalized village of high standing in part of the park with a medicalized house, restoration of the castle and accesses of the old park, tourist creations of lodgings and, in the long term, possible opening to the public… such are the broad outlines of this vast project which should make revive and emphasize this superb field of the inheritance gardois.
