Castle of Pierrecharve

The Castle of Pierrecharve , étymologiquement (" stone bald person ") is located on a rock of Molasse 60 height m and dating at least from the 12th century. Located on the commune of Ripe, it was one of the seven castles surrounding Alby-on-Chéran. Buildings, there remains only one tower dominating the river of the Chéran.

Originally, it could be a question of a strong Maison which controlled the passage of a very old dismountable wood bridge in the event of invasion.

Inhabited until in the Years 1960, it is today with the complete abandonment. There exists a project of rehabilitation carried out by an local association " Companions of the Castle of Pierrecharve". The project includes/understands a restoration of the buildings and the installation of the site with the realization of an open-air theater with steps and the reconstitution of a village of the Middle Ages. See the site.
