Castle of Ouchy

The castle of Ouchy is an old medieval castle converted into hotel, it is in the district of Ouchy to Lausanne in Suisse.

Its origins are related to the Évêché of Lausanne (Landri de Durnes) which made build a tower on banks of the Lac Léman towards 1170. One century later, the work was rebuilt then transformed into residence strengthened for the bishops, of which Guillaume de Varax which appreciated it particularly. The work was also used as prison. As of the 16th century, under the Bernese time, the castle was forsaken and its reduced tower of ashes in 1609, its keep also acted as attic. The State de Vaud recovered this possession after the departure of the Berneses and in 1885 separated some by selling it to Jean-Jacques Mercier. The new owner radically transformed the castle by shaving the ruins and old constructions, except for the tower. The castle was rebuilt in a neo-gothic style between 1889 and 1893 in order to make a hotel of it, function which it fills always today.
