Castle of Ochsenstein

The castle of Ochsenstein is located in the Commune Frenchwoman of Reinhardsmunster, in the department of the the Low-Rhine

History

The Château is built at the end of the 12th century on a passage which, of Reinhardsmunster, led towards the Lorraine. Stronghold of the Evêché of Metz, it has the role of defending it.

Still visible characteristics

  • on the Large-Ochsenstein , the ruins of the pentagonal keep, the polygonal vault, the farmyard and the semicircular lathe for the firearms.

  • on the Small-Ochsenstein , some vestiges of the enclosure.

Access

Since Saverne, to take D 171, then the forest road passing by the Schaeferplatz . To finally follow a marked out path of a blue rectangle.
