Artistic evocations
The ruins of the castle are evoked by Guy of Maupassant in his novel Humble drama (1883)It surprises more than any other ruin by its simple hugeness, its majesty, its powerful and serious ancient air. It is, only, high there like a Montagne, died queen, but always the queen of the valleys lying under it. One goes up there by a planted slope of Sapin S, one penetrates there by a narrow door, one stops with the foot of the walls, in the first enclosure above the whole country.
In it, of the fallen rooms, the shelled staircases, the unknown holes, the undergrounds, the Oubliette S, the walls cut in the medium, the vaults holding one does not know how, a stone maze, cracks where the Herbe pushes, where slip of the animals.
I was alone, grinding by this ruin. ”
