Castle of Moulinsart

The castle of Moulinsart is a Château imagined by Hergé for the Adventures of Tintin and Milou . It is about a counterpart of the Château of Cheverny, to which one would have withdrawn the two external wings. The name Moulinsart was invented by Hergé, which reversed the name of a village of the Brabant-Walloon, Sart-Mill. In the cartoon, the castle of Moulinsart is the residence of the ancestors of the Capitaine Haddock.

It is in the album the Secrecy of the Unicorn that Tintin discovers the castle of Moulinsart, where it is retained prisoner by the brothers Loiseau. At the end of this episode, the Haddock captain joined it and discovers thus the castle of his ancestors, of which he will become owner at the end of the Trésor of Rackham the Red . Tintin, Milou, the Captain Haddock and the Professor Tournesol from now on will settle in this castle for the continuation of the adventures of Tintin, with their service the majordomo Nestor. the Jewels of Castafiore is the only album where the intrigue proceeds completely with the castle. In the park of the castle an appendix is in which Tournesol installed its laboratory

Anecdotes

A subtle difference marks the transfer of property of the castle of the Loiseau brothers to the Haddock captain: the black telephones become white . It is true that as of the beginning of the 7 crystal balls , the album which follows, the captain will show himself very anxious to post his new social status.

It also should be noted that the interior of the castle of Moulinsart is never the same one from one album to another. Indeed there exist certain parts which are similar in all the albums like the “room of navy” or the “large living room” but the entry or the staircases are always different.

The castle was bought by the Haddock captain thanks to the money which professor Tournesol received for the patent of his Requin submarine used in the the Treasury of Rackham the Red .

The number of Téléphone of the castle is unfortunately very close to that of the Boucherie Sanzot (421 and 431), which causes multiple angers with the Haddock captain because many people seem to confuse the two numbers.
