Castle of Lorge
The castle of Lorge is located at less than one kilometer of the Hermitage-Lorge.
Structure
Its imposing mass and the broad prospects for the field do of it one of the vastest properties of the Coast-with Armor. Built between 1721 and 1740 by Guy-Nicolas de Durfort, duke of Lorge, large lord with the sumptuous way of life, the Choiseul-Praslin family inherits it at the XVIIIè century and, starting from the iron ore local, created the Forges of the Step.
The central building forms a splendid whole of the XVIIIè century, remarkable by its dimensions, its roofs in Mansart, and by sobriety, very Breton, of its granite frontages. Two imposing houses frame it, prolonged by terraces. Southern part, a garden of embroideries (cut boxwood) dominates two large water mirrors. The frontage is simply rythmée by the succession of fifty-three windows, around the central perron. The commun runs form a square court, near a large kitchen garden. The stables of 200 horses betray the ambitions of the duke of Lorge which, says one, wanted " to hold garrison in its domaine".
History
During the French revolution, the castle is the theater of a drama chouan. National pomegranates and guards flush out there a royalist, Mrs. Frottier de Kérilis, which had been stopped and condemned to died at the end of an expeditious lawsuit. In order to move back the fatal date, she says herself pregnant, which makes it possible its two sons to organize its removal of the prison of Saint-Brieuc. Successful operation. They have taken refuge with the castle of Lorge, uninhabited for twenty years, but the Bleus are not long in catching up with them and kill Mrs. Frottier de Kérilis and one of its sons. Another history speaks about twenty dead and a bloody perron.
The iron factory has a very deep mine in forest of Lorge. The passage of the railroad, after 1880, ensures to him the perenniality of the workshops, transformed into foundry of the second fusion. Its not very modern techniques and its insulation lead however to a brutal suspension in 1978.
