Castle of Liechtenstein

The castle of Liechtenstein is a Château located in Low-Austria close to Maria Enzersdorf, in the south of Vienna. The building, with the skirt of forest of Vienna (the Wienerwald ), was built first once at the 12th century before being destroyed twice by the Othoman in 1529 and 1683. The castle remained in ruins until in 1884, date on which it was rebuilt.

The castle of Liechtenstein (" hone brillante") its name gave to the family which became about it owner, and who was going to found only later (in 1719) the principality of Liechtenstein. The castle is thus not located on the territory of the principality.

The family of Liechtenstein had first once the castle of 1140 until the 13th century, before definitively recovering it in 1807.

Today, the castle is especially known for the festival of Théâtre Nestroy, organized each year during the be.
