Castle of Landskron

The Castle of Landskron is on a hill of the Sundgau to Leymen, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France, with some steps of Flüh in Suisse.

The Castle of Landskron was built before 1297. As of this time of the competitions about the property rights on the Castle were brought back. The Castle was increased and transformed into fortress in 1516. After 1665 Vauban was charged to restructure the fortress. The Castle was destroyed in 1813 by the Austrians and the Bavarian ones in war against Napoleon Bonaparte. Since this date the Castle of Landskron is in ruin.

In the years 1970, the owners of the time established a colony of monkeys to with it. Since 1984 the Castle of Landskron belongs to association binationale Pro-Landskron and was partially renovated in 1996. Other work of restoration is envisaged.

A particular characteristic of the Castle of Landskron is its keep which is a large rectangular tower.
