Castle of Jonzac
The castle of Jonzac is a Château located on the commune of Jonzac in the department of the Charente-Maritime in France.
history
- In 1073, the castle already exists and the first known signor is Guillaume of Rochandry at the beginning of the 12th century
- In 1505, Jean of Holy-Moor, lord of Jonzac, bases the monastery of the Carmelite friars on the vestiges of an old vault dedicated to Saint Nicolas. The cloister is built in 1657. The young person Louis XIV, the Queen mother and Mazarin remains with the castle in 1659.
- the castle remains with the Holy-Moor until the end of the 17th century pui passes by marriage to Espardes de Lussan which keep it until the revolution.
- currently the northern wing of the castle shelters the buildings of the Town hall (restored at the 19th century), and the wing southern, those of the sub-prefecture. The cloister was restored between 1976 and 1978, and shelters aujoud' today an arts center, with archaeological museum and showrooms.
