The castle of Holy-Hermine , located at Holy-Hermine, in the Vendée, crossed the centuries, of the Middle Ages until our days.
History
The medieval time
Glorious medieval time of the castle, it remains only three turns, of which a tower with nozzle of the 13th century. Indeed, the castle was refitted with the whole beginning of the reign of Louis XIII (of 1612 to 1620).
Philippe III says the Bold one, wire of Saint Louis, came at Holy-Hermine in March 1272.
If the castle accepted famous visitors, it also had prestigious owners. For the medieval time three appear constables of France, of which most known was Charles d' Albret .
Rebirth
A few years later, on April 19th, 1622, the young king Louis XIII followed his court was accepted with the castle of Holy-Hermine for his inauguration: he “attached the bouquet to the ridge of the new building”.
As a royal host receipt by the castle, it had been preceded by the king Henri IV, as one of the streets of the named commune points out it “street of the Inhabitant of Béarn”.
The time of Louis XIV
It is Jacques of Nouhes, governor of Low-Poitou, which refitted the castle such as it is today. Its successor was Philippe de Courcillon de Dangeau, baron de Sainte Hermine, official historiographer of Roy Louis XIV, colonel of the regiment of the king, aide-de-camp of king, diplomat extraordinary, adviser of state, governor of Touraine, member of the French Academy, large main about Saint Lazare etc Bref, a court gentleman.
By descent, the castle passed to the dukes of Picquigny and Luynes which were among the last barons de Sainte Hermine.
Nowadays
Currently inhabited by the Poultier family of Mesnil, this monument knew to preserve the life which formerly animated it by accommodating the Festival of Holy-Hermine and its large spectacle of night every year the first weekend of August.
