Castle of Hohlandsbourg
the castle of Hohlandsbourg , is located near Colmar, Haut-Rhin. It was built in 1279 by Siegfried de Gundolsheim. It was improved at the 16th century by Lazare de Schwendi. He currently visits Easter at November 11th.
History
The construction of the castle, on order of the provost of Colmar Siegfried de Gundolsheim, dates from the year 1279. The site, located at 620 meters of altitude makes it possible to supervise Colmar and its area. As of 1281, the middle-class men of Colmar revolt and set fire to the castle with the assistance of the large baillif Otton d' Ochenstein.The castle passes then under control of Ensisheim before being given in stronghold to Ribeaupierre then with the Counts de Lupfen into 1410 who increase it. To the 16th century, the castle belongs to Lazare de Schwendi, large general of the empire and which, says one, would have brought back the Tokay Hungary in Alsace. It increases and reinforces also the castle.
Alsace become French at the conclusion of the War Thirty Year old, the castle accommodates troops which make it jump into 1637 of fear to see it falling to the hands from an Austrian army.
Classified historic building in 1840, the castle is restored starting from the Années 1990 to become a historical and cultural pole.
