Castle of Guard-Sword

The castle of Guard-Sword to Saint-Brice is built on the edge of a plate dominating with far the Charente.

History

January 7th, 1553, the sior Ancelin, merchant, buys this stronghold with the marquis de Caravaz (the Marquis de Carabas of the tale of Perrault) with permission to build there a house with crenels with fuye, fish pond, wild rabbit.

Guard-sword is sold and changes many times of owner during his history.

Structure

On the right, before the entry, imposing the Fuie round comprises 2600 putlog-hole S. It is covered with a roof in pepper plantation with three attic windows and date of 1553. The weapons of Ancelins are visible above the door. It is a listed monument.

The entry is imposing with a surmounted carriage door of a long curtain crowned of merlons.

The buildings form a vast quadrilateral. The home which occupies with dimensions north was rebuilt fine 18th with two levels under a low roof; it is prolonged by two wings on only one level.

The court comprises a curious covered well of a roof.
