Castle of Frobourg
The castle of Frobourg is a Castle-extremely, in ruins, located today on the territory of the commune of Trimbach, in Suisse and counts among the most important medieval ruins of the Massif of the Jura.
History
Located not far from the road of the Bas-Hauenstein, the hill is successively occupied during the Neolithic , with the Bronze Age then at the time of the Roman antiquity. The first mention of the fortress goes back to 1237 under the name of Vroburch , but the remainders archeologies it make it possible to estimate its construction between 10th and the beginning of the 14th century.Until worms 1250, the castle is the seat of the family of Frobourg and their court. The presence of craftsmen of this time was also proposed by the excavations. Thereafter, the various branches of the family left in various cities of the area. The castle is then put in Baillage then sold to the counts de Nidau in 1307 before being definitively abandoned towards 1330.
It is restored and explored between 1973 and 1977, after successive excavations were carried out on the site throughout the 20th century
Plan of the castle
The castle is built on a lengthened plate and is surrounded by a built enclosure built before 1100. Composed originally of a simple room and woodens building of one or two parts, it is gradually extended by turns and a Rempart and is supplemented by a triangular advanced work, located at the north of the castle.
