Castle of Fallavier

History

The castle of Fallavier (Isere, France) existed before 1250. It was increased and reinforced during the 13th century by the counts of Savoy. Forsaken little by little, it seems more or less in ruins as of the 17th century. Under the direction of its last owner, Gabriel Mérard, the voluntary ones restore it during the years 1970. Since 1992, the castle belongs to the commune of Saint-Quentin-Fallavier.

The castle of Fallavier was also used recently as decoration for many scenes in outside of the series Kaamelott written and carried out by Alexandre Astier.

Description

The castle is built on the hill of Relong (alt. 344m), on a dominant position. A ditch (disappeared) and a first enclosing wall (preserved relatively well) delimit a surface of one hectare and half. A second enclosure surrounds the buildings of the castle itself, placed against the Northern wall of the first enclosure. The circular keep of 32 meters (only 25 nowadays) is placed in the angle Is second enclosure, and is isolated from the castle itself by a wall. A narrow staircase dug in the wall of the keep makes it possible to reach the top, where the sight is obviously panoramic (table of orientation). Around, the ruined buildings are still impressive. One distinguishes in particular the windows from the Northern vault side.
