Castle of Couin

The Château of Couin is a castle of the Pas-de-Calais.

History

Several constructions seigneuriales preceded the construction by the current castle.

The family of Landas, owner of this field decided to build an at the same time traditional and modern castle for the time. In 1745 work began. The home seigneurial was demolished. Construction was undertaken under the aegis of the architect arrageois of Hoot. In 1748, the carcass work heavy castings are finished and it date is immortalisée on the frontage of the castle.

The owner Philippe Albert de Landas Ndas dies in 1760 and his Isabelle wife continued by dismounting the church to rebuild it stone by stone so that it is presented perpendicular to the residence. In the Years 1780, the son carried out the stables in a neo-classic style. When the Revolution bursts, the count and his wife are imprisoned. However, the inhabitants of Couin defended them for the services rendered to the population. But the two pediments of the castle are engraved.

Landas carried out a peaceful life but not having heirs, to their death, the castle is yielded to Louvencourt. The building however is not inhabited until Arthur de Louvencourt which made in 1823 a complete inventory of fixtures. It settled and undertook interior and external installations with his Emma wife like the big room to be eaten, the earthenware poële… Their Ghislain son continued work the bathrooms, the kitchen range…

During the First World War, the castle was used like general headquarter for medical division by the British armed as from 1915.

Louvencourt continued to live Couin until the beginning of the Années 1950. Then it was used for summer camps. As from this time he will not be inhabited any more until 2003. Louvencourt yielded it in 1962 to a arrageois which even resold it to him with the current owners.

In 1965, the castle was registered entirely, interiors and external with the additional inventory of the historic buildings. Since 2002 the castle knows a particularly important program of restoration. Opened to the public for this period, it has been one of the castles deprived among most visited in the north of France.
