Castle of Chaumont-the-Guiche
Castle located on the commune of Saint-Bonnet-with-Joux in Saône-et-Loire, on an eminence, at the border of the old stronghold of the Charolais and Duchy of Burgundy.
Description
Construction
- the frontage of the 16th century is flanked of a gross round tower, said turn of Amboise , crowned Mâchicoulis.
- the Western frontage was built in neo-gothic style at the 19th century; it is decorated of a turret and is finished by a house in return of the same style.
- the most original part of the castle is the building of the stables, built between 1648 and 1652 by Henriette of Guiche , duchess of Angouleme (architect François Martel, of Charolles); two very high stocks of chimneys are drawn up plumb with the wall of frontage; in the center of the building, the principal gate is surmounted by a niche sheltering the equestrian statue of Philibert of Guiche ; these stables were intended to shelter 99 horses, maximum number authorized for a gentleman, only the king who can have which it more.
- In complement of the castle Rebirth, two wings in return of square had been added to the 17th century, thus forming an interior court opening towards the NR, but, towards 1805, they were removed.

- 14th century ............ transfer of the castle, with grounds and justices, with the family of Guiche , to which it still belongs
- beginning 16th century… rebuilding of the castle by Pierre of Guiche , ambassador of France, helped by the uncle of his wife Jacques d' Amboise
- 1584 .................... completion of rebuilding works by Philibert of Guiche
