Castle of Chassy

The Château of Chassy is located on the commune of Chassy in Saône-et-Loire, at the exit E of the village, is perched on the side of a small small valley where is born the brook from Clessy.

Description

The current aspect dates in major part of the 15th century. The castle is built on old house-strong carrying the date of 1056. Above a robust main building two round towers point, a square tower and a hexagonal tower. With proximity an old dependence and a circular dovecote are massif.

The castle is a Private property and does not visit itself. It is registered with the Additional Inventory of the Historic buildings.

History

  • of the origins at the 15th century, various lords share the stronghold among which:

    • Of Wood
    • the Chassy , of which, according to Courtépée, Pierre de Chassy , husband of Alix de Busseul (of a noble family whose castle was located close to Charolles) which was done religious after the death of her husband assassinated at the 12th century
    • the Jantes , with, starting from 1315, Hugues de Jantes which makes faith and homage to the count of the Charolais " of its house of Chaci" ; the reference to a castle appears starting from 1404
    • the Choul (or Cabbages), of which Claude Choux , husband of Jeanne Brichard , which was made build, towards 1500, a vault seigneuriale

  • this one sells the castle with Hugues de Mayneaud de Bisefranc (also of Digoin)
  • medium 18th century: this last resells the field with the count Antoine Augustin Jean-Louis Duprat-Barbançon , grandson of Jean Hector de Fay, marquis of the Maubourg Tower, baron of Essanlés, lord of Clessy, Vendenesse, Rochefort and Villefay, Marshal of France and creator of the Forging mills of Gueugnon in 1724.

Today, this castle belongs to Mr. De Benoist de Jantissert , which also has a castle with Saint-Vincent-Bragny.
