Castle of Charlottenburg

The castle of Charlottenburg is a castle with Berlin. The Prince-Voter of Prussia Frederic III originally made build this palate between 1695 and 1699 for his wife Sophie-Charlotte. After its rise with royal dignity in 1701 under the name of Frederic Ier, the castle is increased around the main courtyard. Between 1740 and 1747, the Eastern wing is added to be used as residence with its grandson Frederic II, said Frederic the Large one, guard of Voltaire and large collector of French painting.

This wing, rebuilt after the Second world war, shelters an important collection of painting of the 18th century, of which the Enseigne of Gersaint of Watteau.

This castle is built at the beginning as residence of summer of Sophie-Charlotte but it comes to pass the end of its life then there.
