Castle of Chalancey

The castle of Chalancey is located on the commune of Chalancey in Haute-Marne. The castle, registered voter with the Historic buildings, date of XVIe century and XVIIe century.

History

The current castle was built with the site of a feudal castle built at the end of XIIe century, beginning of XIIIe century by the lords of Grancey. The home was rebuilt at the beginning of XVIe century without however respecting the medieval provisions. This work is allotted to Louis Seclier, receiver general of Finances in Burgundy. One of the porteries carries the year of 1618 and the weapons of Barley Claude, widow of Léonard of Damas.

Towards 1820, the baron de Chalancey, owner of the places, arranged the garden of the park to the English , with an artificial cave.

Architecture

The rectilinear frontage with large cross, the circular tower with drain-holes added to the enclosure and the Ribbed vault of the tower square dates from XVIe century.

The wing built at the XVIIe century, in the prolongation of the home, wrapping the square tower belongs to the same countryside as the garden on terrace arranged around the castle.

The apartments were refitted in second half of the XVIIIe century; room with alcove with decoration of Stucco and paintings.
