Castle of Chalamera

The castle of Chalamera is a fortress templière, located in the commune of Chalamera (Huesca, Aragon), in Spain.

Description

History

To its death in 1134, Alphonse Ier, king d' Aragon, without heir, gives the totality of its kingdom to the military orders of the the Holy Sepulchre, the Hôpital and the Temple. This disputed act was never implemented. After nine years of negotiation with papacy and the Aragonese nobility, an agreement is conlu in 1143. The order of the Temple then receives many fortresses with tax incentives and land, of which the castle of Chalamera. This fortress belonged to the order of the Temple within the framework of the Reconquista.
