Castle of Châteaudun

The Château of Châteaudun is located at Châteaudun in the department of the Eure-et-Loir.

The castle of Châteaudun includes/understands:

  • a Keep
  • the Ste Chapelle
  • the wing Dunois
  • the wing Longueville

The keep is 31 meters high and 17 meters in diameter.

History

The castle was built 12th century at the 16th century.

The count of Blois Thibaut V makes build the keep towards 1170.

The Ste Chapelle was built between 1451 and 1493.

The chorus, the high vault are built between 1451 and 1454.

The southern nave and oratory are built of 1460 with 1464.

Jehan de Dunois builds the western wing (or Dunois wing) between 1459 and 1468.

The bell-tower is set up in 1493. François Ier of Orleans-Longueville makes build the stages of base of the northern wing (or Longueville wing) of 1469 with 1491.

The stages of the Longueville wing will be completed by François II of Orleans-Longueville and his descendants during the first quarter of the 16th century.

The castle is bought by the baron de Léprouve in 1504 at the same time as the title of count de Châteaudun.
