Castle of Boissière
The castle of Boissière is located at Boissière- theSchool in the Yvelines.
History
Boissière was with the Moyen-âge a stronghold of the châtellenie of Saint-Leger. The Highone and the Lowone belonged to various families of which Malebranche in 1715 and the baron Gras of Boissière.
It is the latter which made build the current castle, between 1853 and 1857, in the style Louis XIII out of brick and stone. The castle incorporates probably former structural components of the 17th century of which it occupies the site and takes again part of the plan by giving him a symmetry that it did not have in the beginning.
One of wire of the baron Gras sold an important part of this field to the commander Olympe Hériot who made increase the castle towards 1890 by in particular adding two low wings with terraces. It is of this time that date the remarkable staircase out of marble due to the architect Georges Tersling (also architect of the Hériot hotel, Rue of the Pheasantry in Paris) and the marble and bronze statues which decorate the park.
The regional School of the first degree “Olympe Hériot”
The commander Hériot created in his park, in 1886, a military orphanage intended for the old children reared by the army from five to thirteen years. This institution was the donation object to the profit of the ministry for the War, supplemented later on by donations of the widow of Olympe Hériot, Mrs. Douine. Today, this institution is called the “Regional School of the first " degree; Olympe Hériot" ”.
