Castle of Auerbach

The Château of Auerbach dominates the largest district of the town of Bensheim which is located on the Bergstrasse at the south of the Land of Hesse.

Description

The ruins of the Castle are imposing and give an idea of the power and richness of the lords who resided at it.

From 1780 this castle was the residence of summer of the prince-landgraves of Darmstadt. The landgraves made there plant many exotic plants, in particular a sequoia which is regarded as one of oldest on the continent of Europe.

Auerbach is mentioned for the first time into 784. Since 1939, it is a district of Bensheim which counts approximately 9600 inhabitants. It is the most re-elected tourist resort of Bergstrasse.
