Castle of Artigny

Built during the War One hundred Year old, the Castle of Artigny was integrated into the defense system established along the Indre around the Keep of Montbazon (Indre and the Loire). It is on July 30th, 1912 that Joseph Spoturno, known as François Coty, celebrates perfumer, bought the castle. Allured by the site, this last made shave the castle which was of an architecture enough " hétéroclite" to build there, of 1912 to 1929, the current castle, in pure the style of the XVIIIe century.

To its death in 1934, the castle was placed under sequestration on order of its many creditors. In 1940, the castle was successively occupied by the State Major of the Ministère of the Navy, by the German troops until 1942, and by an appendix of the General hospital of Turns. Lastly, it was again a provisional hospital until 1946. When the girl of the perfumer inherited it in 1947, several proposals for a purchase were submitted to him. It is finally Mr Rene Traversac, who went purchaser in 1959 from there in order to transform the castle into hotel of great luxury.

The Castle of Artigny accommodated many personalities such as the Queen-mother of England and Négus of Ethiopia in 1963. November 24th, 1973, the " Monetary conference internationale" brings together in Artigny the Ministers for Finance of the five plus world great powers (of which V. Giscard d'Estaing).

Today, the Castle of Artigny is always property of the family hotel group Grandes French Stages, whose Pierre Traversac is the President. This castle hotel counts 65 rooms, 2 rooms of restaurant, a spa.
