Castle Trumpet

Shaved today, the castle Trompette is built with Bordeaux after the One hundred Year old war, under Charles VII. It was with the site of current the esplanade of the Quincunxes. Built with the extremely of Hâ (with the site of the Law courts), it made it possible to supervise Bordeaux.

The construction of the Castle Trumpet

After the Battle of Castillon in 1453, the town of Bordeaux passes after three centuries of English domination under the authority of kings de France. Little time after this victory, the King de France, Charles VII, orders the construction of the Castle of Far (become Château of Hâ) and of the Château Trumpet to protect the country against a new English offensive and especially to control the coldly conquered city.

To be itself rejoined the new ones with the English in spite of its rendering with Dunois in 1451, the town of Bordeaux had, as well as other towns of Guyenne, to support the cost of constructions. This castle is the symbol of the royal authority in Bordeaux.

The castle is rebuilt under Louis XIV, after the Fronde, by of Argencourt.

History of the Castle Trumpet

During the wars of religion, Duras tries to seize some, without success, in 1562.

At the time of the Ormée, it falls to the hands from the revolted city and is destroyed by the Of Bordeaux one. It is rebuilt and increased under Louis XIV by the engineer Mothe d' Argencourt (1653-1655). Vauban supervises work. It is definitively destroyed in 1818.

In 2006 the alteration work of the lines of the tram put at the day on the Place of the Quincunxes of the vestiges of the castle.
