Castle Malescot St Exupéry
The castle Malescot St Exupery , is a wine field of 45 ha including 30 ha of vines, located to Margaux in the Gironde. In AOC Margaux, it is classified third great wine in the official Classification of the wines of Bordeaux of 1855.
History of the field
At the 16th century, the field is with the dependant Escoussés, notaries with Margaux since 1608. In 1697, the property is sold to Master Simon Malescot, adviser of the king attached to the Parliament of Bordeaux. The Malescot family will remain owner of the field during more siècle.In 1827, the count Jean-Baptiste Saint-Exupéry, back grandfather of the aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry acquires the property and decides to add his name to the denomination of the castle but in 1853, the widow of the count Saint-Exupéry, ruined, must sell her property with the biddings. Sirs Fourcade and Boissac after having to give again its row with the castle are them also constrained with the sale in 1901. In 1937, the company Chaplin and C° names Mr Ritz as administrator.
In 1955, Paul Zuger and his Roger son buy the field where there remain only 7 hectares of vines. It will take them thirty years of efforts to give again its plume with the blazon of Malescot and its currency semper AD altum (meaning always higher). The field is managed today by Jean-Luc Zuger.
