Castle Cos Labory

The castle Cos Labory , is a wine field of 18 hectares located at Saint-Estèphe in the Gironde. It is a classified AOC Médoc fifth great wine with the classification of 1855.

History of the field

The vintage of Cos Labory was detached from the field Château Cos d' Estournel at the conclusion of the French revolution of 1789. The field belonged to François Labory, who gave him his name. In 1845, Louis-Gaspard d' Estournel recovered the vineyard but will be obliged seven years ruined later, almost, to resell it. Currently, it is Bernard Audoy, who directs the family field.

The soil

The word cos comes from the locality Caux (Gascon: stone hill). This croup of fine gravels skirts the road going of Château Lafite-Rothschild in Cos. The field Cos Labory has 3 hectares on this ground. It there forever too much water in winter because of the slope and the depth of the tertiary basement of the Eocene , but the density of agglomerated sand stone retains sufficient moisture in summer.

The grapes know a fermentation from 18 to 25 days. Since the end of the year 1990, the wine profits from the malolactic Fermentation out of barrels of oak. The wine matures during 15 month in the Barrique S in oak, partially new (30 to 50% according to the year)
