Castle Angelus
The castle Angelus , is a wine field of 23,5 hectares Saint-Émilion in the Gironde. In AOC St. Emilion, it is classified First great wine classified B in the last Classements of the wines of St. Emilion of 2006.
History of the field
The field owes its name with the situation of the vineyard, from where the vine growers could intend to sound the bell-towers of the Angélus of the three surrounding churches: the vault of Mazerat, the church of Saint-Martin-with-Mazerat and that of St. Emilion.Acquired by the family Boüard de Laforest, at the beginning of the 20th century, the field increased little by little and reached a great notoriety. In 1909, Maurice de Boüard de Laforest inherited the Castle Mazerat and in 1929, it acquired the Field of the Angelus, an adjacent vineyard.
In 1985, Hubert de Boüard takes again the family exploitation and in 1996, its efforts in quality point of view of are rewards. The Castle reaches the row of First classified great wine. The oenologist Michel Roland takes part in the revival of the field.
The soil
The vineyard is located on the foot of coast, an abrupt slope directed full south. The ground argilo-limestone rests on a calcareous base. The Encépagement is composed to approximately 51% of Merlot, 47% of frank Cabernet and 2% of Cabernet-sauvignon. In certain years as in 2003, the share of the frank cabernet exceeds even that of the merlot!The mature wine 18 to 22 month in new barrels.
