Castle-firm of Roly
Dominating of its imposing mass, the firm-castle, of which the Donjon is not other than the tower of the knight S, sign of the power of the first lords of the place. The “thour of Rolliers” goes back to the beginning of the 13th century. A house (the manor) there was assistant. Thereafter, was built a vast main building and the commun runs: immense a Barn, many stable S, cattle shed S and Pigsty S, as well as a Sheep-fold. The interior court is defended by 3 Tourelles. One penetrates there by 2 carriage entrances and of the ditch S surround the buildings at the west coasts and north.
The year 1616 affixed with the southern wall points out the great restoration of this unit which had undergone the attacks of the French troops at the time of the construction of the Forteresse S of Philippeville and of Mariembourg.
The Château was in ruin at the beginning of 1700 and it is only during the years 1746 with 1749 that one transformed the Château.
Today private property, it is Mr. Leone and his wife who restore this inheritance gradually classified.
Only a small portion of the Château is currently renovated: the Donjon is the only inhabited part, the entirely refreshed Chapelle castrale accommodates sometimes exposures. Another realization of the owner is the transformation of the Bergerie and the Brasserie into room of reception.
Obviously, the enclosure of the castle receives very regularly Artiste S and Artisan S where each one can admire this splendid Architecture. Immense the Grange is open every year to a Marché of Christmas.
The vault castrale
Opposite the presbytery, is a vault dedicated to Saint Antoine de Padoue. This vault is independent of the priests of Roly.
The western face of the vault, now decapitated of its bell-tower, and covered with a croupette of eternities, is bored of a door into full clotheshanger, flanked of 4 drain-holes. The roof rests on a cornice bevelled in Tuf. Behind the stone furnace bridge which could go back to the 14th century, one could find the foundations of a semicircular chorus; would this be the trace of the old vault castrale already quoted in 1485?
The vault was completely altered in the years 1880, was arched in Bardeau and was painted in the taste of the time. On the southern face, one found under the rubbles of the frescos representing of the flowers and the suns ochers, blue reds and with sinusoidal rays, original painting of the Détrempe of the 16th century (today invisible following the restoration of the building). As for the door bored opposite in the northern wall, it dates from the transformations of 1880, as proves it its situation outside the enclosure, source of insecurity, the size of the steps and the large arc with two Claveau X.
The tradition wants that in time, there was a chaplain with the castle which said the holy mass to it. The key of the door giving access to the vault vis-a-vis the place (exterior facade) was preserved by the guard private individual (Mr. Mambourg in 1877). The key of the other carries giving in the farmyard (in the interior frontage) was kept by the Master of the places.
