Labarthe-on-Lèze is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Garonne and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Its inhabitants are called the labarthais .

Geography

Located at 20Km at the south of Toulouse, at 6Km in the east of Low wall, on the rivère Lèze and bordering the river Ariège. It is bordered by the communes of: Lagardelle-on-Lèze and Eaunes in the south, Vernet and Goyrans in the east, Villate in the west and Pines-Justaret in north. It is crossed by RN20.

History

Labarthe owes its name with vast the Forêt S which, at one extremely moved back time, recovered to it quasi totality of its territory. Bartha is a word pre Latin meaning “glazing bar”. The communes of the same name are very numerous in this area, this is why, in 1899, one will distinguish them by an additional indication, here the situation on the river.

Labarthe belongs to these small cities which fitted in socio-economic fabric Gallo-Roman around Toulouse. Vestiges found in the ground attest existence of Labarthe at that time.

At the 10th century, the Féodalité settles with, in particular, the Seigneur S of Clarmont and Louzic, then at the 15th century the family Ysalguier, will come then the Rochechouart, to quote only the principal ones.

The October 30th 1792, a few days after the proclamation of the First republic, the citizens of Barthe proceed to the election of the first republican general advice of the commune.

With the Horse-drawn appearance of the S, then Automobile S, large work of Voirie S are undertaken, followed, at the 19th century, by the construction of the Railway Toulouse-Foix. The installation of new means of communication opened many horizons with the rural class, often in excess. The demographic fall recorded in 1901 is significant in this respect: the commune this year counts nothing any more but 515 inhabitants.

The commune is twinned with the town of Breda di Piave in Italy near to Venice.
