The toponym Castet appears under its current form since 1096 and in the forms Castellum (1154, titles of Barcelona), Casteg (1385, censier of Béarn), Sent Policarpe de Casteig (1621, insinuations of the diocese of Oloron).Castet holds its name of the castle of Castet-Gélos, set up on the territory of the commune.
History
Paul Raymond note which the commune counted a laic abbey, vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.In 1385, Castet counted 45 fires and depended on the Bailliage of Ossau.

Economy
The economy of the commune is primarily directed towards agriculture and the breeding.Built on the Gave d' Ossau a stopping feeds a Hydroelectric station basic fall (4 m), of a power of 1800 kw, property of the hydroelectric Société of the South (SHEM) and going back to 1957.
The purity of water of the gave of Ossau allowed the development of pisciculture.

Religious heritage
