Castelnovien
The Castelnovien is a cultural facies of the Préhistoire, more precisely of the Mesolithic of Provence. It was defined by the prehistorian max Escalon de Fonton according to the material resulting from its excavations in the site éponyme of the rock shelter of the Make-of-Pigeons in Châteauneuf-the-Martigues, in the Rhone delta.
It covers the south-east of France and would result, to some extent at least, of the Montadien.
Castelnovien is to be placed primarily at the 6th millenium before J. - C. and is located in the climatic phase of the Boréal.
It will be followed Neolithic Cardial which, although of exogenic origin, will remain still largely impregnated of tradition castelnovienne.
