Castelnau-of-Lévis

Castelnau-with-Lévis is a common French, located in the department of the Tarn and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Geography

History

Castelnau-of-Lévis, in the past Castelnau-of-Bonnafous was founded in 1235.

In 1480, the seigniory becomes the possession of Hugues d' Amboise, baron d' Aubijoux. This seigniory will remain in the family of Amboise until the 17th century. The small son of Hugues, Louis d' Amboise d' Aubijoux, Count d' Aubijoux and baron of Castelnau-in Bonnafous, will restore, and live regularly the castle, very characteristic, with his 40 meters height tower. The room of weapons of the castle was decorated by its care with paintings, among which one noticed the portrait of the count d' Aubijoux, and that of the king. Ruins of the old castle, there remains only some ruins of which a tower of guet dominating the valley of the Tarn and the town of Albi.
