Castanet-le-Haut is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Castanetois.
Geography
Commune of Herault, frontier with the departments of the Tarn and the Aveyron, Castanet-le-Haut is located in the valley of the Mare which takes its source in its territory, in Prat de Cèbe, and which will be thrown in the Orb with Hérépian, after having crossed all the canton. One finds there the solid mass of the Espinouse.The D922 road going up of Saint-Gervais-on-Pond crosses the collar of the Cross of Mounis (810 m), then gives access is in Aveyron by the D53 road which borrows the collar of Coustel (883 m), that is to say in the Tarn after having crossed the Dourdou by the Bridge of Crushes.
The commune is in the territory of the Regional natural park of High-Languedoc.

History
Inhabited at least since the Gallo-Roman time of the traces of a Roman camp located at Plos of the Daughters-in-law can let think that families could live under the slopes of Espinouse as of the time Gallo-Roman ECommon guard of many traces of the activity of the men: old mines of Anthracite, Chestnut grove S in terraces now abandoned. Castanet-le-Haut belonged to the Diocèse of Castres. To the Revolution, it was initially attached to the Tarn, then in the An X, it was decided its membership of Herault with all the valley of the Pond. The current territory of Castanet-le-Haut is made of that of the initial commune of Castanet-le-Haut and part of common disappeared from Saint-Gervais-Ground-Open. The change intervened in 1827.
Economy
The traditional saving in Castanet-le-Haut was the agriculture of which the breeding Ovin: the Milk, directed towards the cellars of Roquefort, was used to make celebrates it Fromage.
