Casselman
Casselman is a Canadian village of 2910 inhabitants located in the county of Prescott-Russell, in the Ontarian east . More than 80% of its population is Francophone.
History
A contractor, Martin Casselman, plans to exploit the forest resources of the area as of 1832. In 1843, this descendant of Loyalistes of Williamsburg (Virginia) acquires 1600 acres of ground on two banks of the Rivière of the Nation. It is established the following year in company of forty men and founds there a Scierie, the first industry of the village.
The village was connected by rail to the metropolises of Montreal and Toronto as from 1856 and benefitted from the construction of the transcontinental Railroad Canadian, which began its operations in the area the 1882.
Casselman is the host of the mégaspectacle the Echo of People, which report 400 years of history in America.
