Cassel (spelled Kassel in German since 1926) is a German city of approximately 200.000 inhabitants located in the Land of Hesse, on the Fulda river. The city is made up of a modern downtown area and residential districts of suburban type.

Cassel is famous for the Documenta, exposure major of contemporary art which is held every five years during the summer and which takes place in all the city (station, Orangerie…).

A French influence is felt in the architecture of several districts, like in several place names and of streets and is explained by the Protestant escape of French following the revocation of the edict of Nantes.

The principal monument of Kassel is a statue of Hercules, placed at the top of a monument, itself at the top of a hill, which overhangs the city.

The urban transport system is the Tramway and the city includes/understands two stations:

  • Kassel Hauptbahnhof
  • Kassel Wilhelmshöhe

It is in Cassel that in 1614 the Fama Fraternitatis was published, first proclamation rosicrucian, who was going to start in Europe an intense agitation in the philosophical mediums and religious.
