Curiosity of Lauriole
With a few kilometers in the south of Cassagnoles a curiosity is which does not cease attracting each year the curious ones and the skeptics. With the place known as of Lauriole a road seems to go up whereas it goes down… or the reverse! This “coast which goes down” is announced by the panel Curiosité of Lauriole . A special configuration of the surrounding ground gives a bad impression of the direction of the downward incline. The result is not spectacular, but however very curious. One can make the experiment with a ball, a bottle, or a car at the dead point. In fact, all is played on a unevenness of a few decimetres. The effect thus comes from a visual error compared to the neighborhoods: an optical illusion. The noted direction of the descent (while letting descend a cylindrical or spherical object for example) corresponds well to the direction determined by a statement of levels.
