Synopsis

James Bond, who has just acquired her statute of agent 00, will have at the time of part of poker with the " Royale" casino; with the Montenegro to face the Figure, banker for international terrorists and member of the international criminal organization the Spectrum. It will be helped of beautiful Vesper Lynd…

Summary

With pregeneric, one learns that it has just been promoted " 00" (" double zéro" : wearing of weapon and enabling to make use of it according to its own judgment, i.e. authorized to kill). Then the credits come from Casino Royal with the band “You know my name” of Chris Cornell (singer of Audioslave). The action starts in Uganda where a lord of the war entrusts his money to called the Figure. Then, one finds 007 in Madagascar where it tracks a terrorist, Mollaka, and finishes not without sorrow by cutting down it, in an embassy which more is. As much to say that M is not content and prefers to draw aside James Bond and to send it “to put the head in sand” at the Bahamas. Over there, it meets Alex Dimitrios, a terrorist, and his wife, the beautiful Solange. Dimitrios put an agent in relation to the Figure which entrusts the mission to him of exploding Skyfleet, a prototype of plane which must be presented the following day to the airport of Miami. It was, of course, without counting on the intervention of 007 which prevents the attack. Only, the Figure had sold all the Skyfleet actions which it had bought with the money of its customers. The amount of its losses rises to approximately hundred million dollars. This is why it organizes with the Montenegro part of poker with ten with ten million cellar and five of Re-cellar. James will take part in this part. While going to Montenegro, it makes knowledge with an young woman, Vesper Lynd, who represents the British Trésor who provides the setting of the part of poker. It also meets there, a character who will become scour in the series by always giving him a knack, the agent of the CIA Felix Leiter…

Critical

Before the exit of film, the “rupture” was already started with the attribution of the so much coveted role with Daniel Craig, a fair man with a mine patibulaire, far from the sophistication of a Pierce Brosnan. The character appears in fact much more brutal, and paradoxically more significant, which finally emphasizes its human side. Thus, the series gains in-depth and is seen offering a revival become essential in order to keep a certain interest, both for the general public its many admirors.

The film starts with the traditional scene of opening which proves to be original since it shows, in black and white, how Bond, miraculeusement renovated compared to the Jump of last films, acquires its statute of double-zero.

The history opposes agent 007 to the Figure, banker for international terrorists, in very varied places energy of the the Bahamas to the Montenegro while passing by Miami and the Lac of Like. With this intention, James profits from the assistance of charming an accountant - in the person of Eva Green - with which it ties an intense history of love, which one had not seen any more since At the secret service of his Majesty . The film probably introduces the female character more excavated and most complex of all the series. Its dramatic end returns besides also to the " secret service of its majesté".

Last half an hour proves to be rich in bounces, since the malicious one itself is confronted with the other malicious ones - and thus the hero too. The any end of film proposes the usual characteristics of the myth bondien: famous “the My name is Bond,…” and in particular the topic of Monty Norman given to the last style by David Arnold, which directed the band of four James Bond films. The climax of film consists of a long part of Poker which is stretched.

Stereotypes

All the film is thus made: the traditional stereotypes bondiens quite present, but are redistributed differently:

the part of charts becomes more important than the scenes of actions, fewer but successful (in a more contemporary vein).
the car-presentation of the hero is the last image of the film
the main adversary of Jump dies well before the end
the sung credits is quite present, but avoids the traditional silhouettes of pinups bondiennes besides (it posts to him also a very contemporary esthetics, in the style of a Flash animation in flat tints of colors)
Bond really passes very close to death, (in a scene rather surprisingly credible)
it is tortured, and spends a true moment of suffering
the song of the credits leaves pop sweetened or the large American variety morning of drunk person by the voice of its interpreters generally female, to find a simpler and more aggressive color via the raucous voice of Chris Cornell, former singer of Soungarden.
when he asks a vodka-martini, Bond does not specify “with the shaker, not with the spoon”, on the contrary, when the waiter requires of him to choose between the two ustensils, he answers in one moment of irritation “What I have some with foutre? ”
It is interesting to note that this James Bond , which recalls in fact the beginning of the career of the famous agent, is in fact much more psychological: this last makes errors at the beginning, but gradually, learns from its errors. It already is seen very crafty one, cold, logic, and very empathic.
It starts from a machine to kill without history (a scene where James Bond and Vesper Lynd try to know what it is the different one, does not give us finally any key on James Bond) with a man who serves her ideas, which forges in violence its own identity, his own methods.
the final scene is completely representative, since it introduces the character as the others at the beginning did it; one can thus say that one assists all length with the blossoming of James Bond.
the fans of the precedents opus could be disappointed by the weaknesses of James Bond, who gives up the myth of the indestructible hero, the lack of gadgets (and by the absence of presentation of those) as by the short track race which is not one, which is really in rupture with the preceding episodes. In addition, the choice of Judi Dench in the role of M poses a problem of continuity, since this one was presented like the successor of the M played by Bernard Lee and Robert Brown in GoldenEye . In fact, the production regulated this apparent problem of continuity by affirming that this film started a new series of cinematographic adventures of James Bond and that there was no continuity to seek since there was not more.
