Casimir Lewy

Casimir Lewy (Kazimierz Lewy, born the February 26th 1919 with Warsaw of Ludwik Lewy & Izabela Lewy, born Rybier, died in 1991) was a British philosopher of Polish origin . He is known for his contributions in the field of moral philosophy and for his teaching work with Cambridge and Liverpool.
Biographical elements
His/her father, doctor of medicine, died when Casimir was a child, it lived then only with his mother and the family of the latter. Its interest for philosophy was born when, at the 15 years age, it lute an article devoted to with the philosophy of Tadeusz Kotarbinski, of which it bought the Elementy , and influenced by the reading of this work, it continued then the courses with the Université of Warsaw. It left Poland in 1936 in order to go to the United Kingdom to learn English there. To make this stay more interesting, it was registered in philosophy at the University of Cambridge, and finally decided to remain there until obtaining diploma B.A. in 1939. The situation in Poland made its return impossible, it then began in the preparation of a thesis of doctorate under the direction of G.E. Moore. He became doctor in 1943, with an essay entitled Some Philosophical Considerations butt the Survival off Death . He also continued the courses of Ludwig Wittgenstein in the years 1938-1945. He helped Moore as an assistant of drafting in the review Mind , and he took part in meetings of the Moral Sciences Club . He taught with the Faculty of Science Morals in Cambridge in the years 1943-45.He married Eleanor Ford in 1945, and, this same year, was employed by the University of Liverpool, where he worked until 1952, when he returned to Cambridge to teach sciences morals, and to become, in 1955, Sidgwick Lecturer , and to be elected, in 1959, member of the Trinity College. He became Reader in philosophy in 1972. He also taught at universities of Illinois, Texas to Austin, and Yale.
