Caryopteris

The kind Caryopteris gathers 16 species of plants of the family of the Verbénacées originating in the East Asia and the Central Asia.

Recent phylogenetic research resulted in positioning it in the family of the Lamiacées.

Description

They are herbaceous plants, sub-shrubs or shrubs, drawn up or climbing. Their sheets simple and opposed, with margins whole or cogged, often glanduleuses. The flowers are generally joined together in Cyme S or Thyrse S.

Use

Certain species are cultivated like decorative plants, in particular Caryopteris X clandonensis , an hybrid resulting from the crossing of C. incana and C. mongholica , of which there exists several Cultivar S.
