Carvetii

The Carvetii were people and Civitas of the Roman province of Brittany, inhabitant what is now the Cumbrie and the Lancashire, in the North-West of the England. They are not mentioned in the Géographie of Ptolémée nor in any other traditional text. One knows of their existence thanks to found inscriptions with Penrith and Temple Sowerby, both in Cumbrie. Their capital was probably Luguvalium (today Carlisle), the only city strengthened known in the area.

Perhaps they formed part of the confederation of the Brigantes, and some propose that Venutius, husband of the queen brigantine Cartimandua and later an important leader resisting brittonic of, was a carvétien.
